The different types of characters you can play in Dystopia Rising are known as “Strains”. Every chapter has a list of Strains that are Common, Uncommon, Rare and Banned.

Each Chapter has a different set of which strains are Common, Uncommon, Rare and Banned. This is to create a more immersive world that shows sometimes Strains populate more in different areas than others.

We’re going to go into detail here what that means for you!

Open Strains:

Open Strains are open for anyone and everyone to create a character from. If you’re home game is here with us, all of these Strains are our common Strains! They require no background nor approval.

  • Baywalkers

  • Iron Slaves

  • Mericans

  • Nation of Accensor

  • Natural Ones

  • The Red Star

  • Remnants

  • Retrogrades

  • Rovers

  • Semper Mort

Additional Approval Strains:

Additional Approval Strains means these types of people pop up in our world occasionally, but they aren’t as easy to see around.

If you want to play an Additional Approval Strain it will require an approval of your Character’s Costume AND Background Story so we can make sure you have an understanding of how these Strains work. Additional Approval characters must abide by high standards of role play and appropriate costume to be allowed to continue in game.

You can submit your application for an Uncommon Strain by e-mailing DRPennStaff@gmail.com. This must be done 2-3 weeks prior to the event you wish to debut your new character.

We must see your full costume on your body in order to approve it. This can either be done via e-mailing us pictures.

If you’re home game is here with us, all of these Strains are our Additional Approval Strains!

  • Pure Bloods

  • Salt Wise

  • Genjian

  • Full Dead

Limited Approval Strains:

Limited Approval Strains means that, while not impossible, seeing this type of person in DRPA will be incredibly rare as their strain was not known to settle in these parts of town.

If you want to play a Limited Approval Strain it will require an approval of your Character’s Costume AND Background Story so we can make sure you have an understanding of how these Strains work. Additional Approval characters must abide by high standards of role play and appropriate costume to be allowed to continue in game.

Rare Strains will also require an expenditure of 150 AP points, which are earned from extra time as an NPC, helpful tasks, or donated items while at an event.

Restricted Approval Strains:

Restricted Approval Strains means that, while not impossible, seeing this type of person in DRPA will be incredibly rare as their strain was not known to settle in these parts of town.

If you want to play a Restricted Approval Strain it will require an approval of your Character’s Costume AND Background Story so we can make sure you have an understanding of how these Strains work. Restricted Approval characters must abide by high standards of role play and appropriate costume to be allowed to continue in game.

These strains will also require an expenditure of 300 AP points, which are earned from extra time as an NPC, helpful tasks, or donated items while at an event.

You can submit your application for an Uncommon Strain by e-mailing DRPennStaff@gmail.com. This must be done 2-3 weeks prior to the event you wish to debut your new character.

If you’re home game is here with us, all of these Strains are our Restricted Approval Strains!

  • Solestros

  • Diesel Jocks

Note: We can only approve of one person to play a type of a Restricted Strain per one hundred players. This means if we have one hundred locals and there is already an Diesel Jock in play we can only approve another Diesel Jock once there is two hundred locals total.

Not Approved to play at DR: PA Strains

“Not Approved” strains per settlement only means that these types of Strains will never be able to be local to Dystopia Rising Pittsburgh. This is primarily due to the style, focus, and themes of the DR PA game.

This does not mean if you are playing one of these Strains, and are local to another chapter, that you can not visit us. It purely means that no character of these Strains is home to us.

Seeing these strains in our world is incredibly rare, as they’re all travelers!

  • Unborn of Teixiptla

  • Lascarians
